Today’s working world is almost entirely mobile. In fact, it’s expected that by the year 2020, 75 percent of the U.S. workforce will be full-fledged mobile workers. Part of the allure of being a mobile worker is having the freedom to be productive outside of what’s considered the traditional office space – and today’s technology landscape is full of tools (i.e. mobile applications) to help simplify that process.

At Motus, we’re seeing this transformation happen first-hand. We recently recommended some mobile apps that empower mobile workers to be more efficient while they drive for work. Check them out if you haven’t already – we bet you’ll find them useful.

Another great way for mobile employees to be more efficient in their day-to-day is by accessing real-time information from their fingertips. Those who drive for work need to constantly be up-to-date on weather and driving conditions, and could benefit from regular insights into car maintenance/repair frequency, driving safety tips and tricks, and navigation advice. There’s no better place to get this information quickly and easily than the wonderful world of Twitter.

So, with that in mind, today we present to you our (drum roll please) top five must-follow Twitter accounts for mobile workers (in no particular order):

1. @weatherchannel

If you’re a mobile employee that covers a large territory, how can you stay-up-to date with weather and driving conditions? Look no further than The Weather Channel. TWC’s Twitter feed provides daily weather news, tidbits, video content and alerts so you always know whether it’s sunny or snowing while you’re out on the road.

2. @AAAauto

AAAauto is a great twitter account to follow for tips and tricks on vehicle maintenance. For example, it lets you know when to get an oil change, what unusual smells in your car might mean and insight into the most and least expensive vehicles to own. AAAauto is essentially a one-stop shop for valuable car hygiene and vehicle-related information.

3. @NHTSA

The National Highway Traffic Safety Organization (NHTSA) is an agency of the Executive Branch of the U.S. government that strives to “save lives, prevent injuries & reduce economic costs due to road traffic and crashes, through education, research, safety standards and enforcement.”

This account is a great resource for advice on how to stay safe while driving for work, as it’s loaded with alarming statistics and data pertaining to minimizing risk and maximizing driver safety. As a mobile employee, you’re far more productive when not recuperating from a preventable auto accident.

4. @carsdotcom

Cars.com’s twitter bio states “You create a lifetime of memorable moments in your car, from shopping to servicing to selling, we’re there for every turn.” And they do just that. This account is a comprehensive destination for all things cars. It’s a great place to stay in-the-know regarding the new and used car market – and includes driving tips and tricks, and more.

5. @waze

Waze is a great application for mobile employees trying to get from point A to point B with real-time, user-generated road updates. Its twitter account goes above and beyond to provide fun, engaging content related to its main goal and mission as a company – outsmarting traffic, together. It also does a great job of providing product updates and communicating with customers.

As a mobile worker, you’ve got a lot on your plate. Twitter can be a great resource to help you stay on top of weather conditions, drive safely and minimize risk, stay in-the-know with quick tips and tricks for vehicle maintenance and more. Don’t have a twitter account? Hint: It’s free!
