Thanksgiving Travel Highest in Years
Thanksgiving travel season is now upon us. In the next few days, you might be putting the finishing touches on Auntie’s favorite stuffing or arguing with your brother in favor of deep-fried turkey over a traditional, roasted bird (I’m in favor of fried myself). You might even dust off your Letterman jacket for some high school football. In any case, Americans across the nation will be doing lots of driving this week.
Whether you’re finishing up the work week early, getting ready for that long drive to Grandma’s house or have a mobile workforce with employees who drive for work, the good folks at Motus are here to remind you how this week’s record travel impacts us all.
If you’re a mobile worker? Get your gas early, plan ahead and stay alert.
According to AAA, 48.5 million drivers will hit the road this week, which is approximately five percent higher than Thanksgiving travel last year. What does this mean if you’re a mobile worker? Simply put, as you might guess, traffic is going to be pretty bad. Gas prices will also be on the higher end (averaging $2.79, up 31 cents from last year). So, what can you do? Head to the pump sooner than later, give yourself plenty of extra time to get where you need to be, and stay extra alert (more coffee always works).
If your company has mobile workers? Always consider your vehicle program options.
Thanksgiving travel and its excessive traffic is a great reminder of why you need a flexible vehicle program for your mobile workforce. As gas prices spike this week, how can you be sure your mobile workers are fairly and accurately reimbursed for these fluctuating costs? How can you be sure they aren’t high-risk drivers? And how do you know if they have the tools they need to become safer drivers in a country full of increased work-related crashes and distraction?
At Motus, we help companies like yours implement fair, accurate and safe vehicle programs. With a Fixed and Variable Rate (FAVR) reimbursement program, you can be sure your mobile workers are reimbursed based on actual costs. You can also implement a driver safety program that helps you identify risky drivers and keep everyone safe on the road. And with automated mileage tracking, your mobile workers can boost productivity and whip up those killer garlic mashed potatoes ahead of schedule.
In the near-term? Enjoy time with your family and fry up that turkey (trust me), but don’t underestimate the importance of a safe, flexible and fair vehicle program. It’s never too late to give Motus a shout. Be safe with your Thanksgiving travel and have a happy Turkey Day!
